Hurricane Irma and the CDC

Several years ago, I remember listening to every word the meteorologist uttered. He seemed to know what he was talking about, however, that "storm" continued to surprise even the best of them.  One day, or sometimes hour, the sheriff's department sent out a warning that the hurricane was headed in one direction.  People left their location and moved to another area, only to find out the meteorologist had been wrong.  Was it a lack of education on their part? No, the storm was unpredictable.  Several times I remember thinking, who should I listen to?  No one really seemed to know which way that old girl was headed.  Some people who seemed to be in harms way, ended up being in the safest spot.  It appeared that no one could come up with the right answer about where we should shelter to be safe.  He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe,  (Proverbs 28:26 NIV).
In September, 2017, I was introduced to Hurricane Irma. It wasn't a pleasant meeting.  She was rude, loud, destructive, and she stayed longer than she was welcome.  One thing about Hurricane Irma that I learned was that I only listened to people who were credible.  The people with the education and experience to give me wise counsel.  Several friends and family members had lots of suggestions and recommendations.  I listened to their concerns, but in the end I hunkered down with my fur babies. I remember sitting in the living room watching the approaching "storm". The sky turned different shades of gray at the same time rain pelted against the windows.  The branches on the palm trees were horizontal. The howling wind continued into the night.  The first or second clap of thunder interrupted the electricity.  We sat silently in the dark, listening to the wind which seemed to take on a life of its own.

I'm seeing the similarity between the COVID19 and Hurricane Irma.  I'm only listening to the people I deem credible.  I'm listening to the Surgeon General, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and our local sheriff's department.

And for peace in my life, I continually turn to the one who always sustains me. Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV).
