Over the years one of the skills I’ve become adept at is procrastination.
Especially when it comes to my writing. During the past week two people asked me if
I’ve finished the second or third manuscripts in the Boone’s Creek series.
I think I must have given them one of those “deer in the
headlights” looks.
This year I promised myself I would not make any type
resolution. Every year I set out to finish several projects I’ve started….. and
I swear I don’t know where the time goes. Two of those manuscripts are in boxes
under my desk.
One night, in the middle of the night when one of those
nefarious characters caught my attention, I knew I had to somehow get back on
schedule.
Now it’s the end of January, and by the time I’ve posted this
it will be February.
Several months ago at my husband’s suggestion I blocked off an
entire day, just for him. So far, it’s working.
When I looked at my calendar, I came up with so many excuses
why I couldn’t work on my manuscripts. However, writing is as important to me
as eating (except chocolate).
I’ve decided to block off time on my already stretched
calendar for my writing projects. Just telling myself I’m going to do it has
made me feel better.
I realize what a blessing this new group is……Insecure Writers
Support Group! Who better understands a writer, than another writer?
I can’t wait to know many of you. I’m so happy to have your
encouragement and support. I will do my best to encourage each of you who get
in touch with me.

Hi, Katt,
Nice to meet you. I can HEAR you on the time slipping by so quickly. It's insane it fast it passes.
Sometimes we need to PUSH ourselves. I know I ALWAYS wait to the last second to post, or write, even things with work... BUT I get to the point where it get urgent and I get it done. NO EXCUSES... LOL.
Anyway I will look forward to getting to know you better....

Hi MIchael......so good to meet you too. Thanks for stopping by! Today was an incredibly busy day so I didn't get to visit many blogs yet, the days still young! Right..... I look forward to us supporting each other. Thanks again. Hope the rest of your day is quiet......

You have to make the time. If this is your passion, you have to shuffle things around, sometimes give up a little sleep, or maybe let sone things go by the wayside. Good luck to you and your writing!
And your Captcha / Word Verification is still on. You should turn it off as it makes it difficult for visitors to leave comments, and Blogger catches 99 percent of all spam.
So nice to meet you, Kathryn. Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
I think we sometimes need that break from our writing, but we have to know when it's time to jump back in. :)
We insecure writers really need each other! I haven't "joined", but I follow several bloggers through links on Joylene's blog.
It's funny how we can ALWAYS find time for the things we know we have to do, but when it comes to indulging our need to write we make excuses. It might be frivolous, selfish, unimportant in the scheme of life, a waste of valuable time, etc., etc. It's only when we believe our writing is as important as other things on which we spend our time, that we give it (and ourselves as writers) due respect.
I'm so glad you've returned to your unfinished series. Pick one of them, and commit to getting it done. We'll all hold you accountable! You can do it if you really want to. Go, Katt, go!!! (See, I can be a cheerleader, too.) ;)
Hi Kitt :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Procrastination....I bought a book on it once and yep, you guessed it...I didn't read it lol.
I'm a big believer in making writing part of my daily routine, like brushing my teeth, or feeding the cats. I wouldn't not do those every day ;)
On January 1st 2012 I challenged myself to write every single day, even if it was for only 15 minutes, and now, it's part of my everyday life. It really does work.
Good luck honey xx
Stephen,
Thanks so much for your comments. I didn't know I could turn that word verification off! Sometimes I have to identify myself!! You are right....it's all about priorities....

Linda,
You are right.....we all need a break from everything from time to time. I'm trying to learn not to feel guilty when I do take a break.

I love this Carol......You are so right! That's the one thing I really get hung up on....."I'm not really a good writer....who wants to read what I write"..... I'm trying to turn that little voice off in my head. Thanks for being my cheerleader! I need one!

Vikki,
You make me laugh! Reminded me of a time someone (much younger) told me I should take ginkgo ----for my memory. I told him, I had already bought some, just couldn't remember to take it!
Good luck to you in your writing my friend!
