MY EVERYDAY HERO

Carol Kuykendall, a regular Daily Guideposts contributor, is one of my everyday heroes. I've never met Carol, I don't know much about her except for the fact that she is a cancer survivor. Her husband Lynn, also struggles with cancer. Carol's words today in daily Guideposts, "he's been on chemotherapy for more than a year for his recurrent brain tumor".
Why is she my hero? Because she offers hope to me. She offers an example of courage to me.
I've struggled for the past five years with a non-life threatening disease of my own. I have more good days now than bad ones, but during the bad times it's difficult to stay upbeat. Some days it's difficult to put one foot in front of the other one, literally. It's difficult to travel very far, and so the story goes. But I'm learning to deal with it. And it's people like Ms Kuykendall who give me hope. She has looked death in the face. She continues with her deep faith, and leads the rest of us. To her I can only very humbly say, thank you for all you do for us. I pray for she and Lynn often.
2 Corinthians 12:9 My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness....
12:10......For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I think God provides people like Carol to be an inspiration for us. When we become too preoccupied with our own troubles it's good to recognize things are often worse for others around us who are quietly coping, thanks to God's strength and presence in their lives.

That being said, some days are particularly tough, and I've come to accept that it's okay to "sit it out" once in a while. :)

Oh, I've done my share of sitting. There was a year long ago with a nervous breakdown, and another year not so long ago of recovering from the big C. Some things are just bigger than we are and we end up letting go at our end and trusting God will hang on from his. (And he always does.)
