THE MOMENT

We, Meko and I sat listening to the early morning sounds of the birds waking up and the traffic on a nearby road. People rushing to work, or school. As I watched the sun coming up I realized how quickly the colors on the horizon change. One moment a golden prism splashing across the sky, then next violet and finally a robin egg blue in the cloud filled sky. All within minutes.
I leaned my head back on the cushion and thoughts drifted through my little brain about life. In the past few weeks I've talked to new mothers holding their baby for the first time, and a wife who held her husbands hand for the last time. Each of them had something in common, the moment. Time passes as quickly as the horizon changes. Life changes every minute of every day. A teen said to me, "life's not fair", expressing his disappointment at not receiving the "new game" which just came out. His mom decided to buy groceries instead.
Or comforting a man who's wife has decided divorce is the better option for the two of them. He also thinks life's not fair.
I hear from people all the time who think life isn't fair.
Jesus hung on a cross. I didn't hear him say life isn't fair. He did it for each of us.
Micah 7:7 Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

They say we're born selfish so we have the innate ability to survive. I've always thought it was because the Spirit inside of us feeds our heart. I've said self-centered things all too often. Even as they leave my lips, I cringe and wish I could pull them back. It's people like you who remind us that we can be better. That is so reassuring to me. Thank you!

I watched several gorgeous sunsets while we were away in August and early September. Never did catch a sunrise, which shouldn't surprise anyone who knows how I am about mornings. But you're right, the exquisite, special moments are fleeting. In the overall concept of eternity my life is fleeting, too. I read somewhere that from the moment we're born, we're in the process of dying. Jesus was born to die. But his life and death had a purpose. I believe my life has one, too, even if I don't happen to know what it is. It isn't my place to know. It may be for one isolated moment when it touches someone else's. But my job is just to live each day, each moment, in the best way I can, and leave the consequences up to God.

There have been times when I've muttered about something not being fair. Then I remember when my kids used to say the same thing, and I would respond with, "Who ever said life would be fair? Get over it." Haha! I have to take my own advice.

Carol,
My kids used to say that too.
You make a difference in so many peoples lives. You're right though, we don't know whose lives we have touched....we need to leave it all in God's hands.....so glad HE knows what HE's doing!
Hugs
